Camp Raj Yog Fundraiser
A Phenomenal Success!
Surrey June 2, 2008
– Hundreds showed up at the Grand Taj Banquet Hall on Monday, June 2,
2008 for a sold-out evening benefiting Camp Raj Yog. The 3H0 Foundation
of Vancouver – The “Happy, Healthy, Holy Foundation” – a society
founded by Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogi ji,
purchased a serene hillside site near Sechelt on the beautiful Sunshine
Coast of BC. The vision for this spiritual retreat centre came
to life at this time through the generous contribution of seed money
from the Dr. Singh Foundation, through Mr. Stephen (Sukhwant) Sander of
the Hollyburn Group of Companies.
Onkar
Kaur, a 16 year old artist from Surrey, welcomed the guests with her
guitar and melodic voice. Co-MC Guru Raj Kaur Khalsa and Sgt. Baltej
Singh Dhillon captured the audience’s attention by narrating 3HO’s
history in Vancouver and told the attendees about what the site will be
used for and how the seed money has greatly helped 3H0 begin work on
the land and launch its $2 million fundraising campaign. They stated
that the land is to be a home for camps and retreats where a spiritual
lifestyle based on Sikh and yogic values are shared with all as well as
a place for other organisations who wish to use it for their
retreats/camps. Furthermore, Mrs. Khalsa and Mr. Dhillon pronounced
that the site will be open to organizations of all faiths, ethnicities,
and genders. Some of the uses they mentioned were Khalsa Ladies’ Camp
(in its 17th year), Khalsa Men’s Camp (in its 4th) year, Sikh Youth
Camps, Gurbani Kirtan Camps, Kundalini Yoga &
Meditation Retreats, Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training, Gatka Camps,
Family Akhand Paath weekends, and for other groups interested in a
spiritual venue.
Ranjit
Adam Singh Sumel, CEO of Sonic Technologies, enlightened the guests as
he shared his personal experience at Camp Raj Yog and Khalsa Men’s
Camp. He initiated the evening’s pledges by beginning with his family’s
own personal pledges. This was followed by an excited stream of donors
sending their pledges and cheques to the podium throughout the night.
As pledges were announced, others poured into the raffle, silent
auctions, and cd sales.
During
the evening, Randeep Singh Sarai shared the story of Mr. Sander with
the guests and presented a plaque to Mr. Sander to honour his
generosity, commitment and support without whom the vision for Camp Raj
Yog would not be possible. Accepting it on his behalf was his daughter
Hari Kirin Kaur and son-in-law, Hari Kirin Singh, who are also
personally very active with the building and organising of the campsite.
The
highlight of the evening for all was the performance of Snatam Kaur and
her Celebrate Peace Band. This internationally renowned Sikh artist and
runner up for a Grammy was introduced by Hari Singh Khalsa. Snatam’s
angelic voice captivated the guests, and made them melt with the
meditative music of the Shabad Guru.
The
event was a tremendous success due to the overwhelming support of
sponsors and community members. Anyone wishing to know more about the
